pile of creatures 3! yay
Oryctes aloeus live in small tightly knit family groups made up of mothers, daughters, sister, aunts and on occasion submissive males. Living on relatively barren tundra, their metabolism is relatively slow to make up for the lack of food, especially during the harsh winter months. Their front mono-leg allows for them to stand on their hind legs with support and leverage, to reach food out of reach of its extendable neck, A unique adaptation is their “antifreeze” blood that visibly courses through its major artery along its body. This antifreeze blood produces so much heat that it physically emanates from its body. Tiny lucerna colonies make the Oryctes aloeus their host, never straying to far. a symbiotic relationship the lucerna gain heat and protection from the Oryctes aloeus, in return for feeding on parasites and dead tissue
The slap-jaw, eating day and night. I wasn’t sure which coloring I liked more. so I figured I would post both of them.
The floating disks, Wayward Plates, are durable but highly flexible fruit plants. Due to the fact that there are no flying pollinators, the plant will “fly” in order to better its changes of releasing it’s seeds. A hard skin protects the fruit pulp as well as the seeds within. Zariguya are capable of penetrating the skin. If not ruptured the wayward plate will float and grow exponentially until it grows so large that it can no longer sustain buoyancy. It will expel its innards and its “body” will come to act as a home for multiple organisms. The Zariguya is considered one of the most maternal of the creature kingdom. Despite its fierce feeding appendage the zariguya is completely herbivorous using its horned appendage to penetrate deep into the flesh of hard shelled fruit and scraping the flesh with their serrated cillia. Their offspring for the 1st 5 months of their lives will hook into specialized pouches, with their horned mouth, into nutrient glands where it will feed completely from its mother as well as be completely secure to her body. at this stage of development this brood of chicks will unhook, feed for itself and begin to explore away from its mother, yet will continue to stay with her for another 3 to 4 months
I KNOW A HELL OF A LOT TO READ but hope you like anyways!!
Much like everyone else out there I can not wait for Prometheus!! so in honor of the anticipated film I decided to hypothesize what new critters we may meet in the movie. Here I played with the idea of a flying facehugger, what could be worst?! I also conceptualized that the impregnating proboscis would also be used as a type of lure, attracting creatures to their doom.
